Pollution prevention and corporate profitability. The road past Rio
Setting Agenda 21 as the blueprint for global sustainable development, leaders at the Earth Summit Conference in Rio de Janeiro agreed that the goals of pollution prevention and corporate profitability must be reconciled with one another if our planet is to endure. Cooperation between governments, international organisations and industry must now ensure that serious steps are taken to reduce and prevent pollution.
In this context, the Conference aims to provide senior staff from government, research and industry with an opportunity to debate the implementation of effective measures for sustainable development. What technologies are available? How cost-effective are they? What role should government play in encouraging industry to take them?
Notable speakers at the Conference are drawn from European and international industry, research institutions and international organizations, Government Ministries of the Member States, the European Parliament, and the Commission of the European Communities. Commission representatives include Albert Strub, Director of exploitation of research and technological development, DG XIII, speaking on the dissemination of new technologies throughout Europe.
