Advanced study courses feature oceans, climate, and environment
Each course will be residential, lasting for two to three weeks. The following courses are currently scheduled to run in 1999:

- Legal Aspects of the Implementation of the Kyoto Protocol : Maintaining Accountability within a Flexible Regime, London, 28 June - 2 July 1999;
- Integrated Regional Impact Studies in the European North : Basic Issues, Methodologies and Regional Climate Modelling, Abisko Research Station, Sweden, 4 - 16 July 1999;
- Atmospheric Effects of Aircraft Emissions in the Upper Troposphere and Lower Stratosphere, Bergen, Norway, 22 - 31 August 1999;
- Tools and Methods for Integrated Assessment, Maastricht, Netherlands, 30 August - 17 September 1999;
- Marine System Analysis1999, Island of Vilm, Germany, 1 - 17 September 1999;
- Methods in the analysis of the deterioration of collagen based historical materials in relation to conservation and storage, Copenhagen, Lyngby and Brede, Denmark, 6 - 10 July 1999;
- Climate Change and Human Health, London, 8 - 17 September 1999;
- Decision Tools and Processes for Integrated Environmental Assessment, Barcelona, Spain, 20 September - 1 October 1999;
- MEDTRAIN : Mediterranean Ecosystems under the threat of Global Environmental Change : Monitoring and Protecting Strategies, Tramariglio, Alghero, Sardinia, Italy, 2-12 October 1999;
- Groundwater Ecology : A tool for the Management of Water Resources, Vienna, Austria, 10 - 17 October 1999;
- Seismotectonic and Microzonation Techniques in Earthquake Engineering : Integrated Training in Earthquake Risk Reduction Practices, Ionian island of Kefallinia, Greece, 12 - 24 September 1999.
The advanced study courses are designed to stimulate contacts and strengthen links and cooperation between universities and research laboratories.
