The second international conference on EuroGOOS, the European Global Observing System, will be held in Rome between 11 and 13 March 1999. The conference is entitled "Operational Oceanography Extending the Limits of Predictability". It aims to consolidate plans for operational oceanographic services in Europe in the next 5-10 years to identify the areas on which research and development should focus.

The conference is directed towards policy makers, ministerial staff, representatives of major companies, manufacturers, ocean-service operators, scientists, and representatives of government agencies and international organisations.

The conference will consist of plenary sessions, with presentations from invited speakers, and parallel sessions, on topics ranging from the global market for commercial oceanographic services to marine forecasting on a regional scale.

EuroGOOS supports the European component of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS).
