Canary Islands conference marks the end of MAST
The goals of the conference are to:
- Review present knowledge on physical, chemical and biological processes in the Canary-Azores-Gibraltar region;
- Present recent results from the CANIGO project and other related studies in this region;
- Discuss seasonal and interannual changes of the circulation and water mass and matter distributions;
- Discuss sediment properties, geological processes, and the corresponding variability on long time scales;
- Relate regional variability to global climate change.
The conference is open to all interested scientists. To stress the interdisciplinarity of the project, no parallel sessions will be organised. Several keynote lectures will review the progress made, and other oral presentations will highlight specific topics. A major part of the conference will be dedicated to poster presentations and discussions.
The conference organisers are calling for papers on the topics to be covered. These include processes in the subtropical Gyre region, the Gibraltar exchange and the Mediterranean outflow, processes in the Canary region, and the influence of upwelling.
The event is being sponsored by the European Commission, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Las Palmas City Council.
