CORDIS offers FP5 help at Essen

CORDIS will offer help to over 3000 delegates on its information stand at the official conference to launch the European Union's Fifth Framework Programme (FP5) in Essen, Germany, on 25-26 February 1999.

This conference will be of interest to current and potential research project co-ordinators, representatives from science, industry, and institutions involved in science and technology. Staff on the CORDIS information stand will provide demonstrations of the new FP5-specific service available on-line.

FP5 sets a new structure and management methods for European-funded research for the period 1998-2002. it is structured around a limited number of objectives, emphasising economic competitiveness and social needs facing Europe today.

To take full advantage of all FP5 can offer, it is important to ensure a complete awareness and involvement of key players (namely researchers and SMEs). CORDIS, the Community R&D Information Service, provided by the European Commission, has been explicitly designed to gather information on R&D at the European level and to provide a link between key players in research. It is a free service and an invaluable resource for all those wishing to participate in and benefit from FP5.

The CORDIS FP5 Web Service provides a useful tool to help potential participants find their way in the four thematic and three horizontal programmes, and access accurate information on the key actions. In addition, along with specific FP5 pages, CORDIS also offers a wide range of comprehensive information on EU-funded research and innovation development activities.

CORDIS acts as a gateway that can help potential participants in programmes access comprehensive information on:

- The process leading to the final adoption of the FP5;
- The new architecture of specific FP5 programmes and key actions;

CORDIS is the one-stop shop for all information needed to make a FP5 project proposal. It can help potential participants willing to start a research by providing easy-to-use direct links to:

To benefit from the most relevant information to come out during the four-year period of FP5, potential participants will have to keep up-to-date on new calls for tenders, and track developments on possible partnerships or research results.

CORDIS has set up an awareness service - RAPIDUS. This facility means users with specific information needs do not have to search through all the databases every time. They can submit personal search profiles, just by clicking "RAPIDUS" on the CORDIS Home Page, and information matching these profiles will be automatically e-mailed to users. As RAPIDUS delivers tailor-made information, users stay up to date on the item(s) about which they have chosen to be informed - with a minimum of time and effort.
