To establish a good understanding of how the dynamics of competition are changing and how the market is reshaped in the new networked economy for electronic commerce, the European Commission, DG III, is holding a workshop. The event, "The industrial Aspects of Electronic Commerce", will take place in Brussels on 8 April 1999.

The aim of the workshop is:

- To start an intensive dialogue on the industrial aspects of electronic commerce;
- To assess how far electronic commerce is being taken up by various industrial sectors in Europe - what the role is for new distribution channels;
- To expose the problems that enterprises encounter when adopting e-commerce;
- To understand the benefits and methodologies of building industrial consensus through business communities;
- To assess new investment needs for information technology in Europe and the merits of integrating new open technologies with EDI systems;
- To reflect the important role of awareness in facilitating the take-up of e-commerce;
- To inform industrial partners of relevant Commission-sponsored initiatives;
- To encourage industry to share its experiences and expectations for the future.

The workshop is intended for European industry associations. Other e-commerce related associations, research groups that have carried out surveys on e-commerce, and non-profit business associations active in the domain, are also welcome to participate.
