On 27 and 28 May 1999, ERTICO (Intelligent transport systems - Europe) will host a major workshop in Brussels on video enforcement, focusing on the VERA (Video enforcement for road authorities) project. This project looks at the potential of digital imaging to replace the wet film based cameras currently used for traffic law enforcement.

ERTICO is hailing the event as a unique opportunity to bring together all the key actors in this field, including police agencies, local and national highway agencies, city authorities, industry and other organizations involved in legal aspects of enforcement. The initial findings from the VERA project will be presented, discussed and developed further at the event.

ERTICO was created in 1991 at the initiative of leading European industry, ministries of transport and the European Commission, as a private-public partnership, open to all interested European organisations. ERTICO is the advocacy and advisory organisation for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in Europe. Its objectives are to help co-ordinate ITS activities in Europe, and to support and trigger implementation initiatives.
