A Eurocourse on probabilistic risk assessment and risk-informed decision making (PSARID) will be held at the Gesellschaft für Anlagen - und Reaktorsicherheit mbH" (GRS) in Garching bei München, Germany, from 5 to 9 March 2001.

This is a follow-up event to the previous EUROCOURSE-99. This year, the event is oriented towards PSA and risk-informed decision making. Experts from several EU research and university institutes active in this field, and from industry and utilities have been engaged as lecturers.

The course is structured in seven chapters. The first of these will provide a short introduction, a survey on the Fifth RTD Framework Programme and a keynote on the role of probabilistic risk assessment (PSA) for the licensing process of nuclear installations.

The following chapters represent the six main technical subjects of the course programme. Lectures will deal with fundamentals, state-of-the-art and prominent applications of the methodologies of PSA and on the utilisation of PSA results for risk-informed decision making. They will cover all issues important for providing effective training, and knowledge transfer from PSA practitioners to newcomers in the field and to the decision makers using insights from PSA.

An eighth chapter is dedicated to a course summary and evaluation panel.

The course is intended for graduates from technical or scientific universities and for scientists and engineers with a good background knowledge of nuclear technology and PSA methodology.

EUROCOURSE is sponsored by the Research DG as part of the 'indirect actions' coordinated by its unit for nuclear fission and radiation protection'.
