AMI User Group Meeting

The first European AMI (application of metrics in industry) User Group Meeting will be held in Basle, Switzerland, on 21 October 1994.
The AMI project was sponsored by the European Commission through the ESPRIT programme, to promote the use of measurement in software development.
The project was funded by ESPRIT especially to develop a practical approach backed by full-scale tests on software projects. The AMI approach, based on the concepts of software process maturity assessment and goal-oriented measurement, was incorporated into a handbook and validated in 19 industrial trials. The handbook was published in the United Kingdom in March 1992.
AMI is recognized by the software management community as being far more than a handbook encapsulating a tried and tested approach to software project management. The AMI user group is a complete infrastructure which provides both a reference point for developments in the AMI method and mechanisms to support its diffusion and use. The user group serves as an information exchange mechanism which allows existing and potential AMI users to learn about and benefit from each other's experiences.
The first European AMI User Group Meeting, which will be partly supported by funding from the European Commission through the VALUE programme, aims to bring together the growing number of project managers, quality managers and software engineers from all sectors who are committed to quantitative software management and process improvement.
Delegates will hear experiences from a number of key users. Speakers will be drawn from organizations outside the original AMI consortium, including Schlumberger and Provident Mutuel. Delegates will be invited to attend one of three syndicate sessions, comprising an interactive presentation followed by open discussion. Topics for these sessions will include the following:
- Using AMI to set up a QMS (ISO 9000);
- AMI and process improvement (SEI CMM/SPICE);
- Interpreting measurement data using AMI.
