An event entitled 'The week of innovative regions in Europe' will take place from 4 to 5 June 2012 in Krakow, Poland.

The conference will be a forum dedicated to development based on knowledge and innovation addressing issues related to the effective implementation of EU headline targets at the regional level.

The main challenges and barriers to regional innovation development will be addressed, with a view to making elaborate recommendations for European and regional policymakers. The conference programme will focus on three main areas:
- innovative regions in Horizon 2020- the role of regions in smart specialisation, the role of cities as innovation hubs, and regional innovation ecosystems within Horizon 2020;
- the future of research and innovation at the regional level- synergies between Horizon 2020 and the Cohesion Policy, and on smart specialisation in convergence regions and Centres of Excellence;
- the European Research Area at the regional level- networks of clusters, European groupings of territorial cooperation, networks of research infrastructure and multiregional knowledge partnerships (e.g. Danube, Baltic).For further information, please visit: http://www.wire2012.eu/Default.aspx?id=16
