The First International Workshop on Science-Model- and Task-Aware Search will take place on 27 September 2012 in Pafos, Cyprus.

Digital libraries and scholarly information systems face major information retrieval challenges. Vagueness between search and indexing terms, information overload by the amount and complexity of result sets, and the drawbacks of text based relevance rankings are all obstacles which face users and library stakeholders.

Traditional ad-hoc information retrieval seems to have reached a high level of quality in terms of measures like precision and recall. Nevertheless, advanced bibliometric and network models of the structure of scientific communities are especially promising in the effort to open up alternative access paths in digital libraries.

The event will focus on two new approaches to improving the retrieval process in digital library systems: science models and task-based retrieval. For further information, please visit: http://www.gesis.org/en/events/conferences/scimots/
