The Fourth International Conference on Tribology and Design will take place from 3 to 5 September 2012 in Kos, Greece.

Tribology is the science and engineering of interacting surfaces in relative motion. It includes the study and application of the principles of friction, lubrication and wear. The general idea is that any product within which one material slides or rubs over another is affected by complex tribological interactions. These interactions can be lubricated, which allows hip implants and other artificial prosthesis to protect against wear. The study of tribology is commonly applied in bearing design but it is relevant to most other aspects of modern technology, even for the likes of hair conditioners and cosmetics such as lipstick, powders and lipgloss.

The event will address the role of technology and design. It will bring together engineers and scientist from different disciplines and will focus on space applications, reliability, energy , advanced materials and corrosion.
