European digital cities: the challenge of the future

A conference entitled "European digital cities: the challenge of the future", will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 8-9 May 1996. The event is being organized by Eurocities, Telecities, POLIS and Car Free Cities, within the framework of the Digital Cities Project of the Community's specific RTD programme in the area of Telematics Applications.

The conference, which is the first in a series of four, will focus on the issues confronting urban areas with regard to the deployment of telematics and the development of the global Information Society. The following key urban issues will be addressed:

- Urban areas in a world-wide economy;
- Quality of life of disadvantaged people;
- Transport and environment;
- Education and training;
- Synergy with regional initiatives;
- Urban telecommunication networks and services;
- IT market update.

An exhibition of city and regional telematics applications, major IT products and new multimedia services will be held in parallel to the conference.
