The Environment Institute of the Joint Research Centre (JRC)is organizing a seminar devoted to "Nutrients removal in waste water treatment", to be held on 28 February 1996 at its site in Ispra, Italy.

The biological and chemical mechanisms behind phosphorous elimination, nitrification and denitrification will be presented during the seminar and discussions will take place on the activated sludge process. Biofiltration technologies for carbon, nitrogen and phosphorous will also be presented, and results in industrial plants will be shown. Modelling, sensing and control of such systems will be described briefly to demonstrate the quality requirements of waste water that are coming into play.

This is the second seminar in the JRC's series of high level seminars on aquatic processes and water technology, known as the "Blue Seminars", which are held on a monthly basis in Ispra.
