A multidisciplinary forum on electronic records will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 18-20 December 1996. The forum is being jointly hosted by the European Union Member States and the European Commission (Secretariat General and DG XII - Science, research and development).

The forum will bring together specialists and executives involved in the management of information flow and electronic records (public administrations, archivists, industry suppliers, researchers). The debate will focus on possibilities for wider cooperation, within the framework of the European Union, with regard to the management, storage, conservation and retrieval of electronic records.

The objective of the forum is to prepare a set of guidelines for best practice in the field of electronic records and to investigate possibilities for wider cooperation in this area both between Member States and at Community level. The forum will consist of plenary sessions and parallel working party meetings. The main topics to be covered will include:

- Information flow/work flow;
- Lifecycle of electronic records;
- Relationship between creators, users and custodians of information;
- Terms and concepts;
- Cooperation Europe-wide.

The forum's organizing committee is presently inviting submissions of original papers in the areas mentioned above. These should take the form of an extended abstract (600-1200 words) in one of the working languages of the forum (English, French, German). Complete papers (3000-6000 words), accompanied by an abstract in one of these languages, will also be accepted. Submissions should include name(s) of author(s) and full address. Each submission will be examined on the basis of its clarity, quality and adherence to the general theme of the forum. Selected papers will be presented in twenty-minute sessions.
