The Second Forum on the Information Society, jointly organized by the European Commission and the Central and Eastern European countries (CEECs), is scheduled to take place on 12-13 September 1996 in Prague.

This high-level event will provide a platform for information exchange and discussion on the various aspects of the Information Society affecting the future of all European countries. Participants will include ministers from the CEECs and European Commissioners, and leading industrialists and researchers from the EU and CEECs.

The Prague Forum is a follow-up to the First EU/CEEC Forum on the Information Society held in June 1995 in Brussels. It is part of a series of events aiming to ensure that the CEECs are able to benefit fully from the new industrial revolution generated by the developments in information and communications technologies.

The objectives of the Forum include raising awareness of the issues involved in the development of the Information Society and facilitating further contacts between innovative businesses, research organizations, financiers and government authorities. Specifically the Forum is intended to adopt conclusions and recommendations and identify further actions and projects to be supported by the EU, through the PHARE programme, the RTD programmes or otherwise.
