The third EU-CEEC Forum on the Information Society, bringing together representatives of the EU and 13 Central and Eastern European countries, will be held in Brussels, on 9 and 10 October 1997.

Four panels are preparing for the Forum, which will discuss the development of the European Information Society and the involvement of the Central and Eastern European countries. The main subjects to be discussed, based on the panel reports, will be as follows:

- How EU and CEEC policy making can best be coordinated: to consider the information needs of governments, including the harmonization of statistical data on the Information Society;
- Implementation of demonstrations, pilot trials and projects, and other actions designed to raise awareness of the potential of the Information Society in the CEECs: recommendations and search for sponsors;
- Education and training;
- Information and communications technologies in public administrations.
