European Information Society Awareness Week: Events scheduled for September 1996
The European Week was launched by DG XXIII of the European Commission and the Information Society Project Office (ISPO). DG III also provided financial support for certain events taking place outside the EU.
Three additional events associated with this European Week are now scheduled to take place in Tunis (Tunisia), Bucharest (Romania) and Budapest (Hungary) from 16 to 20 September 1996. Further events may also be held at the same time.
The choice of this particular week is of considerable importance since it directly follows the EU/CEEC Information Society Forum due to take place in Prague from 12 to 13 September 1996. The events in Bucharest and Budapest will present the main conclusions and recommendations of the Prague Forum and outline further actions to be launched as a result. The event in Tunis will examine the information and advisory services available for SMEs in the context of the Information Society.
The events will also include presentations of Commission and G7 initiatives, legislation, the practical implications of the Information Society for businesses, and demonstrations of a wide range of projects, technologies and applications. There will be considerable emphasis on electronic commerce, demonstrating how companies can make use of new ICTs to do business in a global market (use of the World Wide Web for marketing purposes, for example).
