Following the Council Decision establishing the INFO2000 programme of 20 May 1996, the European Commission, DG XIII, is holding an information day in Brussels, Belgium, on 2 July 1996.

The aim is to provide prospective participants with details of the programme, which is designed to stimulate the development and use of multimedia content. In particular, the information day will present the contents of the two calls for proposals planned to be launched on 15 June 1996. The first call will be for the creation of a multimedia information demonstration and support network (MIDAS), and the second will be for pilot projects in the following four areas:

- Economic exploitation of Europe's cultural heritage;
- Information services for business and in particular for SMEs;
- Geographical information;
- Scientific, technical and medical information.

The information day will provide participants with the opportunity to meet the Commission officials responsible for the management of the programme, who will outline the areas and the selection procedures for the calls.
