A joint meeting of the Z39.50 Implementors Group (ZIG) and the European Forum for Implementors of Library Automation (EFILA) will be held in Brussels, Belgium, from 1 to 4 October 1996. The meeting is sponsored by the European Commission, DG XIII/E, responsible for the Telematics for Libraries sector of the Telematics Applications specific RTD programme, and the European Workshop for Open Systems (EWOS).

The aim of the meeting is to increase trans-Atlantic cooperation to make the Z39.50 computer communications protocol for networked information retrieval a truly international standard. The Z39.50 standard is based on client/server architecture and operates over the Internet.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for new and inexperienced users to learn about Z39.50. More experienced users will be able to present their projects and exchange experiences. A session will discuss the problems encountered by users and recent developments in solving these.
