Ocean data symposium
The symposium aims to document recent developments in ocean data management, monitor the requirements of marine scientists and show applications of technological advances in order to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of existing data management methods. The symposium is part of on-going efforts of the MAST Data Committee to disseminate skills in managing ocean data, and will be preceeded by the MAST workshop on project data management to be held in June. The Dublin symposium will focus on four themes:
- Data and metadata requirements of scientists, in order to support ocean research;
- Benefits offered by modern technology to scientists, and the facilities available for analysis and exchange of ocean data;
- Developing the use of advanced technology for data collection, analysis and exchange; and the implication of these developments for ocean studies worldwide;
- Advances in the development of information and data management tools for policy and decision-makers.
The organizers are interested in receiving papers or posters for presentation during the symposium, either in workshops or in plenary sessions. Abstracts should be submitted to the organizers by 30 May 1997.
