Standardization in ICT procurement

The European Commission, DG III, is organizing an Information Day on standardization in information and communications technologies (ICT) procurement in Brussels, Belgium, on 30 June 1997.
The aim of the Information Day is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and the identification of possible partners in the context of the 1997 call for proposals in the area of "Support and Guidance to the Procurement of Information and Telecommunication Systems and Services" (SPRITE-S2). This call is expected to be published by the end of June 1997.
Two major types of actions are envisaged - application/validation and demonstration, and awareness-building and promotion - in the following theme areas:
- 1: Procurement methodologies and tools in response to evolving market conditions;
- 2: User groups with emerging special needs;
- 3: Benchmarking techniques at work;
- 4: Topical issues on ICT procurement;
- 5: Education and awareness.
Proposals for work of a preparatory and support nature may, however, also be submitted.
Detailed information concerning procedures, eligibility, submission of proposals, financial conditions and the Work Programme will be provided in an Information Package available from the Commission.
The Information Day will start with an introduction to the objectives of the call, the description of the themes of work and the presentation of the implementation procedures to be followed. This will be followed by a number of presentations on existing methods and guidance tools for the procurement of ICT systems and services (funded within and outside Community initiatives). In the afternoon session, participants will be given the opportunity to give short presentations of their organizations, and of their interests and activities in relation to SPRITE-S2, with the aim of exchanging ideas, verifying mutual interests and finding potential partners for projects.
