The 63rd general conference of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 31 August to 5 September 1997.

The theme of the conference is "Libraries and information for human development". Discussions will focus on the changing role of libraries in the Information Society and the application of new technologies and systems to the libraries sector. The value of libraries in formal education, and in providing access less formally to knowledge and culture, will be explored.

New technological developments for libraries will be discussed and demonstrated. In particular, a number of projects funded by the "Libraries" sector of the European Community's Telematics Applications specific RTD programme will be demonstrated.
