The case study approach to teaching environmental sciences in higher education will head the agenda at the 5th auDes conference on environmental education. The event will be hosted in Zurich, Switzerland, on 15 to 17 April 1999.

The aim of the conference is to critically examine the case study approach in higher environmental education and research. It is directed towards environmental scientists at universities and engineers, economists, psychologists, systems analysts, modelling experts and representatives of science, industry and non governmental organisations who are interested in the case study approach in the field of higher environmental education and research.

Examples of the presentation topics to be given at the event include, "Using case studies to promote more efficient training in environmental management at a postgraduate level: a Leonardo project in progress", and "Strategy centres as training institutions: analysis and comparison of different experiences around the world". Models and examples of case studies in education and research will also be given, and there will be discussions on the epistemology of case study teaching.

The organisers, the Association of University Departments of Environmental Sciences in Europe has announced a second call for papers and posters to be presented at the conference.
