5 November 2001 - 5 November 2001

CORDIS, the European Commission's Research and Development Information Service, has launched a new web service to support 'European science and technology week.'

From 5 to 11 November 2001, events across Europe will demonstrate the impact, uses and applications of EU research achievements in a variety of fields, including astronomy, renewable energies and nanotechnology. The event aims to encourage public interest in and awareness of science, especially among children and young people.

The CORDIS service introduces the event programme, upcoming activities and organisers. It also offers information on previous European initiatives as well as national support activities. Funding opportunities and relevant contacts to promote further science awareness are provided, and the service provides a geographical selection of science museum contacts and links to interactive science web services.

The site will prove useful for policy makers and the media covering innovation related actions and promoting the exploitation and achievements of EU-funded research. A fledging media service will offer full coverage of such actions, including success stories.
