'Drylands, deserts and desertification: the route to restoration', Sede Boqer, Israel
The event will bring together experts, officials and other stakeholders concerned about land degradation and development. On the conference programme are a combination of plenary lectures and panels, parallel sessions, workshops, field trips and social events.
By definition, drylands include such diverse ecosystems as 'true' deserts, savannahs and tropical dry forest. Drylands are found around the world and are vulnerable to such pressures as land degradation resulting from various climatic and human factors, overexploitation, pollution, the introduction of invasive species and climate change.
The thematic focus of event will be the restoration of degraded drylands. This 'positive' orientation embraces the notion that 'trend need not be destiny', and that many desertified lands, ecosystems and economies can be rehabilitated. Local case studies will be highlighted along side of success stories from around the world with an emphasis on quantitative indicators of progress. Additional sessions will be held considering a broad range of topics associated with desertification and sustainable living in drylands. For further information, please visit: http://www.entersymposium.com/ddd/site/(opens in new window)
