The 14th International Conference on Railway Engineering Design and Optimisation (COMPRAIL 2014)' will take place from 24 to 26 June 2014 in Rome, Italy.

The development of railways has always been a source of immense economic growth. Historically, it absorbed much of the capital investment of the period. It generated demand from other industries, and enabled goods to be transported more easily, more cheaply and on a larger scale. Today, high speed trains require high speed infrastructures and advanced technology and optimisation to ensure a sustainable mobility.

The Netherlands, for example, is not a large country but one of most densely populated in the world. The Dutch railway network consists of frequent trains with several transfer connections along the route, meaning railway optimization is highly sought. In view of its specificities no adequate off-the shelf software is available.

The conference aims to update the use of advanced systems, promoting their general awareness throughout business management, design, manufacturing and operation of railways and other emerging passenger, freight and transit systems. It emphasises the use of computer systems in advanced railway engineering. For further information, please visit:
