The second call for proposals under the User-friendly Information Society (IST) programme, part of the EU's Fifth Framework Programme, has been launched by the European Commission. The call looks for research and/or demonstration proposals in a range of specific action lines under each of the four Key Actions, and in other areas of the programme. In addition, the call also opens a series of specific areas for take-up actions. The specific areas which are open under this call can be found in the call for proposals, read in conjunction with the work programme. The deadline for submission of proposals under this section is 17 January 2000. Also covered by this call are a number of support measures, and research proposals concerning future and emerging technologies, which are in principle covered by open calls. The deadlines indicated - 17 January 2000, for support measures, and 15 September 2000 for future and emerging technologies - are expected to be extended before these dates. The call text, along with the work programme and guide for proposers required to submit proposals, may be downloaded from the CORDIS FP5 information service, at: http://cordis.europa.eu/ist/calls/199902.htm The documents required to submit proposals may be obtained on written request to: European Commission Information Society Directorate-General IST Information Desk Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 200 B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-2968388 E-mail: ist@cec.be URL: http://cordis.europa.eu/ist/
