Ninth EU Contest for Young Scientists
The finals of the Ninth EU Contest for Young Scientists will be held in Milan, Italy, from 9 to 14 September 1997. The aim of the contest is to promote the ideals of cooperation and interchange between young scientists. It showcases the best of young scientific achievement, and gives the entrants the chance to compete with the best of their contemporaries at European level. The young scientists will also have the chance to meet others from different countries with similar interests, as well as meet some of the most prominent scientists in Europe. The contest is organized within the Community's Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) programme, and brings together the winners of national competitions in the Member States and other European countries. In total, some 12,000 scientists, aged between 15 and 21, will enter their national competitions with the ultimate goal of the European prize. The winners of 24 national competitions participate in the EU competition, representing the 15 EU Member States and Iceland, Israel, Norway, Liechtenstein, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland and Ukraine.
