Deliverables

Communication and dissemination plan (opens in new window)

Plan that guides and facilitates communication and dissemination of results to NextGEMS six stakeholder groups. (Task 10.1)

Training strategy and support of gender equality; Hackathons ToR (opens in new window)

This deliverable has two components: 1) Training strategy for young scientists and science programmers, description of the strategy at all Beneficiaries concerning the support for gender equality in academic and science; 2) Description on Hackathons Terms of References (ToR) and the implementation of the 1st Hackathon to clearly demonstrate the objective, structure, selection procedure, participants invitation, financial support and other information relevant on Hackathons organisation and implementation. The report will also reflect the outcomes of the Hackathon. The 2nd part of this deliverable (Hackathon) will serve as a handbook for the development and implementation of further Hackathons. First report on KPI for quality assurance of the project (opens in new window)

1st assessment of the implementation of project using the KPIs, this will be attached to the interim technical report as well. (Task 1.2)

Report describing the ocean mixed layer configuration and upper ocean resolution (opens in new window)

Based on the evaluation of high-resolution ocean and coupled models in comparison with observations of tropical ocean mixing processes, recommendations will be given for improved formulations in mixed-layer models to be used in the application phase. (Task 6.5)

Report on the SR-ESMs evaluation (opens in new window)

Report describing the performance of storm resolving models based on the first three development cycles. It will focus on improvements in simulated air-sea interactions compared to coarse resolution models, and include an assessment of global oceanic metrics. (Task 6.1 and 6.2)

Report on Cycle 2 hackathon, including implementation of renewable energy diagnostics (opens in new window)

This report will describe the outcome of the Cycle 2 hackathon, in which stakeholders will be invited to contribute to the implementation of online diagnostics for wind power production in the SR-ESMs. (Task 4.5)

Report describing the database of synoptic mixing events in the tropical Atlantic (opens in new window)

The report describes synoptic events of enhanced upper-ocean turbulence and co-located surface momentum and heat fluxes captured in observational data sets from the tropical Atlantic observing system in the last 10 years. (Task 6.4)

Report on Cycle 1 hackathon (opens in new window)

This report will describe the results of the first hackathon in which the scientists and solar energy community work together in setting up high frequency data logging at relevant sites for estimation of (trends in) potential for solar power production. Also stakeholder input on relevant variables for logging will be acquired and implemented. (Task 8.5)

Interim report on Knowledge Coproduction activities (opens in new window)

Report on the conducted knowledge coproduction activities with an update of the coproduction plan. (Task 10.1, 10.2)

Report on the implemented revised land-surface information in IFS (opens in new window)

This report will describe the revisions to the land-surface information in the IFS and will provide a first estimate on the importance of the representation of detailed surface heterogeneity in storm-resolving simulations. (Task 8.2)

Refining the set of KPI for quality assurance of the project (opens in new window)

Six Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) have been defined for quality control of the implementation of NextGEMS. These KPI’s provide a management tool to assess progress and changes, both qualitatively and quantitatively. At the beginning of the project, the 6 KPIs will be refined and the planned implementation of the KPIs will be described in details in this Deliverable. (Task 1.2)

Report on implementation and evaluation of simplified aerosol model (opens in new window)

This report will summarize the development of a reduced aerosol scheme and its implemenation and coupling into the ICON configuration, as well as evalution of the same scheme. ((Tasks 4.2 and 4.3)

Report describing the planetary boundary layer in storm resolving models (opens in new window)

Based on the evaluation of high-resolution simulations and its comparison with observations and with results from coarser models, parametrizations of boundary-layer depth, convective mixing and surface fluxes will be assessed, providing recommendations for improved formulations to be tested during the application phase. (Task 6.1 and 6.3)

Report documenting Task Readiness Review (opens in new window)

This report will describe the improvements to SR-ESMs in Cycles 1 and 2 (including output, and workflows) and will assess readiness for the final preparations for the production simulations. (Task 2.4 and 2.5)

Exploitation plan (opens in new window)

Describe the expected exploitation activities and standards, reflect the strategy for knowledge (including results) management set out in part B §3.2 of Annex 1, in particular for transfer of results, the OA to peer-reviewed publications and research data, organization of clustering activities with the climate and weather community and further collaborations. (Task 1.4)

Report summarizing experiences and recommendations (workflow stock-taking) of Cycle 1 and 2 Hackathons (opens in new window)

This report will document the experiences regarding the use of the SR-ESM simulation analysis workflow at the Hackathons (what worked what did not work) and the recommendations made by Hackathon participants to improve these workflows. (Tasks 2.1 and 2.3)

Coproduction plan (opens in new window)

Plan that details the knowledge coproduction activities that will be conducted in the project, primarily in hackathons and pilot studies. (Task 10.1)

Report documenting the stability of the TOA radiation balance in NextGEMS models (opens in new window)

This report will summarize the evaluation of top-of-atmospehre radiation balance against observations, and tests of sensitivty of the radiation budget to variations in processes affecting it. (Task 4.1)

Report with priority list of sub-grid scale processes to address and improve in phase two (opens in new window)

This report will provide a listing of sub-grid scale processes related to turbulent mixing and cloud microphysics that are not realistically represented, and require further improvement. (Task 4.4)

Report on the representation of surface meteorology in the SR-ESMs (opens in new window)

This report will summarize the ability of the high-resolution models in representing a realistic near-surface meteorology. It will present a comparison of storm-resolving model runs against data from coarse resolution simulations and from observational sites. (Task 8.1)

Report on Cycle 3 hackathon (opens in new window)

Report on Cycle 3 hackathon that focuses on evaluating key aspects of oceanic circulation, air-sea interactions, and tropical climate, as well as on implementing diagnostics for Earth system modelling and societal applications, including for fishery communities. (Task 6.6)

Development of cooperate identities and templates (opens in new window)

Project logo, templates for dissemination activities, reporting templates and other relevant images to be co-designed by LT & MPI-M, this shall be applied by the consortium members. (Task 1.5)

The important mechanism to inform everyone including the consortium members about the work, development and results of NextGEMS. The website will contain Vblogs as a new element. (Task 1.5)

Documentation on the high-frequency data logging with a list of the included sites (opens in new window)

This documentation will describe the software developments that allow to perform data logging at high frequency at chosen locations and will provide instructions how to do this.. The documentation will provide a list of sites for which the logging will be enabled. (Task 8.3)

Release (publishing in the sense of DOI provision) of Cycle 2 Simulations (opens in new window)

A subset of the data from Cycle 2 simulations will be attributed a DOI and will be made available to the NextGEMS consortium and the wider scientific community. (Task 2.2)

Documentation of the supplementary output statistics (opens in new window)

This documentation will provide a list and detailed description of supplementary output statistics that will be implemented in order to enable the science of WP9. (Task 8.4)

Details how all data processes, generated and produced at different modelling centres and the storage of the data, documents the data standard, provides a description of standard post-processing tools and workflow relevant software, describes data exchange with other relevant projects as well as data curation and preservation within NextGEMS. (Task 1.3)The DMP will also include the processing of personal data which referenced to related ethics deliverable D11.1.
