CONtributing to Shift2Rail's NExt generation of high Capable and safe TCMS PhAse 3

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - CONNECTA-3 (CONtributing to Shift2Rail's NExt generation of high Capable and safe TCMS PhAse 3)

The main objetive of this project is to continue the activities of CONNECTA-2 project (GA 826098) by developing with high TRL the technologies for Next Generation Train Control and Monitoring System validated previously in CONNECTA-2. These technologies are going to be validated in relevant demonstrators and field tests for urban and regional scenarios. This technologies are:

- Wireless TCMS, including wireless train backbone, wireless consist network and standardized train-to-ground according to IEC 61375-2-6.
- NG-TCN including high safe (SIL4) communication networks to support the drive-by-data concept.
- Functional Open Coupling (FOC)
- Functional Distribution Framework (FDF) together with relevant application profiles.
- The virtual certification framework, with hardware-in-the-loop and remote connectivity to subsystems.

The goal is to reach TRL6/7 in most developments.

The activities of this project aim to achieve significant improvements in terms of trains availability, track capacity increase and cost reduction which are beneficial for the society since they easy the movement of passenger to trains from more polluting transportation means.
In order to fulfil this objective in the project the following objectives has been achieved within the RP2:
1. Definition of the process to follow for the scalation of TRL7 and definition of the conformance tests for each technology.
2. Development of TRL7 solutions belonging to CONNECTA-3 and the integration of the TRL7 network equipment delivered by Safe4Rail-3 project.
3. First evaluation of Safe4Rail-3 deliveries for the identification of issues and missing features.
4. Development of simulators to overcome the lack of AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform based FDF expected from Safe4Rail-3 project.

It is worth noting that CONNECTA-3 has started in this RP2 actively working in the standardization of new technologies for NG-TCMS within the IEC WG43, being the standardization a fundamental step for the future exploitation of these technologies in the railway sector.
By the end of the project it is expected to have TRL7 prototypes in different technologies defined within the NG-TCMS. Different members of the project has already define exploitation plans for the outcome of this project which include the dissemination in standardization bodies of the validated technologies, as well as the incorporation of the lessons learned in the development of the market products.
