Bringing bio-inspired visual processing to the edge
Internet data traffic is exploding exponentially. The increasingly expansive roll-out of 5G networks and the connectivity of devices at the edge of the network, from consumer products and cars to factory robots, are driving significant demand for low-power, high-performance edge computing. In the near future, many of the edge-connected devices will rely on sensing the environment, seeing and adjusting to changes, whether it be a self-driving car or a factory robot moving through a crowded warehouse. The EU-funded MISEL project will develop a low-power, neuromorphic sensor system with embedded neuromorphic processing to mimic the human visual system from the cellular level up to brain regions and interconnected systems processing. Success will inspire and enable innovation at the edge.
