Touchless Haptic Experiences with Neurocognitive AI

Deliverables

Comprehensive sensory assessment and sensory taxonomy of sensations enabled by non-contact haptic technologies, based on state-of-the-art psychophysical techniques and neurophysiology of skin receptors

This deliverable will contain psychophysical datasets describing the sensory capacity of Touchless technologies studied in healthy human volunteer participants The datasets will be prepared for publication in the scientific peerreviewed literature

Preliminary data and AI-driven style touch library

This deliverable will describe the first iteration of the touchstyle library and data on using it to create haptic feedback influence human affect and modulate higherlevel experiences It will be suitable for publication at conferences on haptics and humancomputer interaction

RRI training by all consortium

This deliverable will summarise the training material and capture the learning from a fullconsortium RRI training event to be organised by UCL in early 2021

Cross-projects collaboration plan

This deliverable will be coordinated with the other relevant projects The aim is to plan out the activities aimed at establishing synergies and cooperation across various projects stemming from the same call and funder under the same subtopic Further releases are foreseen at M18 M36 and M38

Generalized experimental setup to integrate our devices with an experimental framework for WP2

A document containing a Schematics of how the participants will stand or sit in relation to the experimental apparatus b Descriptive procedures for temperature and humidity control as well as the sequence of events for a general user study c The placement and regulation for the various biosensors that will capture data for the AI engine both contact eg galvanic skin response oxygen concentration electroencephalography and contactless heart rate body and hand posture temperature change

Launch the HAPTICS Helix

The Haptics Helix will be a virtual cluster that will gather relevant stakeholders interested in the project It will be a networking platform as well as a tool to boost communication and dissemination activities

First demonstration and outreach activities

This report will summarize the first demonstrators and evaluations thereof these will be in the form of paper drafts The outreach activities will be summarized in another part of the report as will the insights gathered from them

Outward-facing website and logo

A website and logo will be created by a professional web and logo designer These designs will reflect the mission and vision of the project We will use these assets for communication and dissemination of project results

Demo of touchless haptics combining electrostatic and ultrasound

A system to create piloerection at target positions with patterns that vary over time Premade patterns can be generated directly with the demonstrator whereas userdefined patterns require the use of an external computer The system can be coupled with an ultrasonic stimulator to create multimodal experiences The setup will be reported in article format for peer review publication containing operational and setup knowledge

Demo of touchless haptics using ultrasound on both glabrous and non-glabrous skin

A standalone demonstrator in which the user can put the arm and feel ultrasonic haptic feedback both on the hand and the forearm For the forearm the stimulation targets the hairs so different parameters can be adjusted to match the type of hair An internal document that may be published on a demo track of a conference will describe the parameters to operate this setup
