CORDIS provides links to public deliverables and publications of HORIZON projects.

Links to deliverables and publications from FP7 projects, as well as links to some specific result types such as dataset and software, are dynamically retrieved from OpenAIRE .

Deliverables

I-US model, KPIs and impact indicators (opens in new window)

This reports includes mapping of value chain networks, including geographical locations and material flows between the actors, emissions, and costs associated with transportation of materials. Comparing the decentralized and centralized value chain networks, the most optimal network designs within I-US will be defined using mixed integer linear optimization method. The potential for (re)allocating pre-treatment plants to minimize environmental impacts and emissions associated with transportation will be estimated. The model will be set up using available data from literature and databases (Eurostat, national statistics), the scenarios will be verified through the pilots to examine patterns at regional scale. Each of the AshCycle I-US pilots will be described in terms of residue/resource flow and modelled applying the indicators and measures developed in Task 1.2. To measure the scalability and the potential environmental and societal impact of creating the AshCycle I-US, we will develop a set of indicators to be used for modelling the environmental, economic, and societal impact of the pilots and the scalability potential.

Environmental optimization in up-scaling (opens in new window)

This report will identify the environmentally safe solutions for upscaling from different processes and concepts developed in AshCycle.

Overview of the legislative requirements (opens in new window)

This report details the legislative requirements for the developed products in AshCycle.

Literature review of material recovery technologies (opens in new window)

Literature review on the recovery methods of valuable materials from ashes is conducted.

CO2 capture by selected ashes and LCA (opens in new window)

This deliverable reports the findings on the carbon capacity storage of the ashes (sequestration potential). Such process might become part of incineration plants, and it provides two benefits; stabilized ash and reduction of CO2 emissions or it can take place through the long-term use of ashes. The results of potential of temporary carbon storage capacity will be critically and adequately assessed within Life cycle assessment (Global Warming Potential indicator). Also, the carbon sequestration will be studied in view of carbstone concrete products.

Characterization and categorization of the ashes (opens in new window)

The results of the characterization of the ashes (i.e., chemical composition, physical and chemical properties) are presented. The ashes will be categorized into groups with critical characteristics (e.g., chemical composition/undesired elements and reactivity) taken as criteria. The groups will be rated into different levels. Lower level of a certain group of ashes means more efforts of pre-treatment will be needed before utilization.

Dissemination and communication plan (opens in new window)

This deliverable includes detailed plan how dissemination and communication are implemented (e.g., how, for who, and when).

Project website (opens in new window)

Website for project will be launched with information about the project and recent news.

Data management plan (opens in new window)

Data management plan describes the following aspects in detail: types, findability, accessibility, interoperability, reusability, curation and storage of data/research outputs.

LCA&GIS tool (opens in new window)

To assess environmental impacts associated with the I-US, combination of LCA and GIS methods will be used. The quality of ashes produced by incinerators and volumes of recovered and residue materials will differ spatially and temporarily. The final application of ashes depends on their typology and pre-treatment technologies as examined in WP4. The detailed LCA of pilot products is performed in WP6. The life cycle inventory data collected in WP6 will be used to quantify the environmental impacts of dynamic scenarios of ash applications, comparing pre-treatment options and final mix designs. Using GIS tool, transportation distances between all potential actors will be examined in a network analysis to minimize associated emissions and identify optimal supply chain directions. The algorithms will be developed to integrate impacts associated with the pre-treatment of ashes, transportation and production of construction materials into the LCA results and interactively show the most optimal application for the produced batches of ashes. The LCA and GIS tool will be integrated with AMA tool developed in Task 1.4.
