The Biodiversity Nexus: transformative change for sustainability

Resultado final

Archetypes added to the database (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

Archetypes of transformative change in practice will be added to the database by identifing their key elements and clustering them into archetypal building blocks to classify successful and failed transformative changes. The results will help to clarify which elements of the case-study transformative process can be generalised to other contexts.

Network of scientists established and working  (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

A functioning network of scientists will be established by identification and engagement of a diverse and transdisciplinary community of knowledge-holders including scientists and non-academic experts (policy arenas, bodies and policymakers, NGOs finance and business sector), i.e., actors that have a stake in transformative change or are end-users of BIONEXT outputs. An actor and end-user typology will be created as well.

A collection of cases from available knowledge repositories (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

A collection of cases from available knowledge repositories will be gathered from relevant, available knowledge repositories including (but not limited to) OPPLA, BISE, MAES Explorer, Naturvation, LIFE-EU, Climate-ADAPT and PANORAMA.

Documents and databases for IPBES assessments (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

Documents and databases for IPBES assessments will be collected by engaging with the relevant bodies of IPBES at the global and national levels to identify a process and timeline for the provision of materials from the BIONEXT project, specifically for the IPBES Assessments on the Nexus and Transformative Change. Initial engagement will be with the Management Committees and Co-chairs of the assessments.

An article manuscript on key options for transformative change and their scaling potential (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

The article manuscript on key options for transformative change and their scaling potential will consist of i) an extensive literature review in the domains of water, food, energy, transport, climate and health to map understanding of transformative change across the domains, how they relate to biodiversity, at what scales they unfold and what actors are considered crucial and ii) Identification of concrete policy, market and social innovations for transformative change by analysing the factors that enable and constrain transformative action in different institutional and socio-cultural contexts.

Scientific paper on the review of nexus interlinkages (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

The scientific paper on the review of nexus interlinkages will include a Quick Scoping Review of past and present interlinkages (IL) among climate change, water, food, energy, transport and health through their relationship with biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people. The paper will pull together knowledge from scientific and grey literature, IPBES assessments and relevant projects/reviews, including indigenous and local knowledg. Systematic mapping will be used to highlight links to the SDGs and the strength of evidence for each IL.

Report on final exploratory scenarios and desirable visions. (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

Report on final exploratory scenarios and desirable visions will clarify the development of a set of exploratory scenarios covering a range of plausible futures for Europe that are likely to show both positive and negative impacts on biodiversity over the short (2030), medium (2050) and long-term (2100). The scenarios will include internally consistent projections of both indirect and direct drivers of biodiversity loss.

First version of the project's CDE strategy and timeline (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

Project’s communication, dissemination and exploitation (CDE) strategy will reinforce the work done in each WP so that the outcomes and impacts of the project will be communicated, disseminated, and exploited to end-users in an effective way.

Policy Brief 2 (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

At least 2-3 page Policy Brief published in published at 2nd reporting period (M36).

Updated data management plan (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

Updated data management plan will be prepare by the end of the project. In the BIONEXT project, Open Access to generated research data is considered as the default. If beneficiaries must keep data closed for justified reasons, it will be explained in the updated DMP.

Policy brief 1 (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

At least a 2-3 page “policy brief” deliverable published at 1st reporting period (M18)

A scheme of co-created transition pathways in the biodiversity nexus (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

A scheme of co-created transition pathways in the biodiversity nexus will include the ‘Transition arena’ methodology that will be adapted to BIONEXT objectives. Material will be prepared together with Task 5.4 for the co-creation session (i.e., graphics, narratives, short videos) that showcase the first workshop’s (Task 1.2) key insights such as exploratory scenarios and desirable visions, as well as the conceptual framework (D2.1), and the empirical case studies of WP3.

A scheme on conceptual framework on transformative change in the biodiversity nexus (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

The scheme on conceptual framework on transformative change in the biodiversity nexus will be made by employing an iterative approach to synthesise a conceptual understanding of transformative change in the biodiversity nexus building on insights from WP1 and WP3 to ensure grounding in empirical contexts and to map and operationalise fragmented insights on transformative change on the biodiversity nexus.
