Root2Resilience: Root phenotyping and genetic improvement for rotational crops resilient to environmental change

Livrables

Phenotyping toolbox - rhizosphere

A list of phenotyping tools suitable for quantifying rhizosphere traits, such as root exudate and rhizosphere microbiome traits, will be compiled and added to the phenotyping toolbox. For complicated traits this will involve the identification and validation of proxies suitable for large scale phenotyping (T2.2).

Priority list of root/rhizosphere ideotype traits

With input from stakeholders and analysis of existing data and literature, a priority list of ideotype traits to mitigate water and nutrient stress will be compiled for each crop species and agroclimatic zone. (T1.1).

Phenotyping toolbox-architectural traits

A list of phenotyping tools suitable for quantifying root architectural traits applicable for field trials and CE experiments will be compiled and associated practice abstracts will be produced to generate a toolbox of phenotyping tools (T2.1).

Guidelines for the Stakeholders engagement and interaction

A document outlining the strategy and procedure for stakeholder engagement will be distributed to all partners and placed on the Root2Res website (T7.1).

Quality Management Plan

The project’s quality management (quality assurance and quality control) principles, indicators and methods will be detailed in the quality management plan (T8.3).

Policy Brief 1

A policy brief will be produced summarised the most policy relevant output of Root2Res. This will be delivered to the EC and distributed to all partners for local policy engagement (T7.3).

Dissemination and Exploitation Plans (including the communication handbook)

A document outlining the dissemination and exploitation strategies will be distributed to all partners and placed on the Root2Res website (T7.3).

Project Workspace

An online platform for the sharing of project information will be developed and made available through the Root2Res website (T8.1).

Workshops

Workshops will be run to train Root2Res researchers and stakeholders (final users) in the use of the developed phenotyping toolboxes (T2.1).

Experimental systems for studying root plasticity

A test mesocosm systems allowing assessment of the plastic response of root traits to varying water availability will be designed and tested (T5.1).
