Supporting Local Economic Development with Business Transaction Data

Project description

A closer look at VAT data

Value-added tax (VAT) is charged on all goods and services levied at every stage of the supply chain, from production to the point of sale. What can VAT records tell us about regions, industries and businesses in general? Supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the SUPPED project will develop tools and solutions that turn VAT records into an information system that can support evidence based policymaking and the development of regions, industries and firms in general. From a scientific perspective, the project will introduce VAT records as a data source to study regional economies. From an economic and technological perspective, SUPPED will create valuable tools that turn administrative data on tax into visualisation tools to inform policy, regional leaders and industries.

Objective

This project aims to develop tools and solutions that turn value-added tax (VAT) records into an information system that can support evidence-based policy making and the development of regions, industries and firms in general.
