Advancing Reaction Platforms for Drug Discovery

Project description

A training programme in drug discovery

Drug discovery involves the identification of novel drug targets and the optimisation of lead compounds. Drugs discovered over the past 100 years have revolutionised modern medicine, while advents in molecular biology facilitate a more targeted drug discovery approach. For this to materialise, there is a need for translating basic science into medical treatments for unmet needs. The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) AiRPaDD project combines industrial and research expertise to establish a doctoral training programme. Partners from four different European countries join forces and focus on novel reaction paradigms and platforms to prepare trainees for a career in the field of drug research and development.

Objective

This Action will contribute to the sustainable development of European chemical industries in the coming decades by delivering an ambitious doctoral training programme that draws on expertise from industry and academia across 4 European countries. The research agenda and experiential training will grow the skills base beyond approaches that have relied upon a limited set of molecular scaffolds and a relatively small sub-set of reactions to exploit new reaction paradigms and platforms (e.g. high throughput experimentation, photoredox & electrochemistry) that meet the needs of modern drug discovery science.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
