Partenariats polonais pour la recherche sur les vaccins contre le cancer
Le développement de vaccins capables de stimuler le système immunitaire de l’organisme pour qu’il attaque les cellules cancéreuses est un domaine de recherche en plein essor. Des recherches supplémentaires sont toutefois nécessaires avant que les vaccins ne soient approuvés pour une utilisation à grande échelle. Le projet CANVAS, financé par l’UE, entend faire progresser la recherche sur les vaccins anticancéreux au Centre international pour la science des vaccins anticancéreux de l’université de Gdańsk, en Pologne. Le projet implique un partenariat avec l’université de Rome Tor Vergata en Italie et le Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives en France, ainsi qu’avec une jeune entreprise de biotechnologie, Real Research, en Pologne. CANVAS mènera une étude pilote conjointe dans le but de jeter les bases d’une nouvelle thérapie adaptée au patient pour le cancer du poumon non à petites cellules.
Objectif
The main objective of the project Enhancing Cancer Vaccine Science for New Therapy Pathways (CANVAS) is to significantly raise the scientific profile, networking, and research management competencies at the International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science (ICCVS) at the University of Gdańsk (UG), Poland, to achieve improved research excellence in cancer vaccine science. The project aims to contribute to reduction of the disparities in R&I in Europe by networking activities with outstanding leading European research partners: University of Rome Tor Vergata (UNITOV), Italy, and Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), France. The partnership includes also a biotech start-up Real Research (Poland), to foster intersectoral knowledge transfer for innovative translational research approaches. A strong focus on upgrade of grant writing and research management skills will improve long-term competitiveness in obtaining funding. In addition a joint pilot study is planned in the project. We expect that it will provide the foundation for a novel patient tailored therapy of non-small cell lung cancer. Thus, apart from the scientific impact, in the long term innovations generated with the support of the CANVAS partnership have a translational potential to contribute to improving therapy for cancer patients, which give the project a pivotal economic and societal impact.
