The two-thirds of the second year of the Project was marked by the delivery of the first version of the VOML and the strong progress of the integration of EDITO-Model Lab core components into the EDITO virtual environment, building on the Year 1 co-design workshops, the initial integration tests considering the specific requirements of Focus Applications and What-if Scenarios, and the Digital Ocean Forum high-level event of June 2024: ongoing integration of the six demonstrators, deployment of AI-based emulators, models’ optimization, data transfer to EDITO Datalake, integration of diagnostic tools,...- leading to the project integration review of September 2024 (MS11), signalling the project readiness to start the next project phase (Demonstration, Year 3).
WP1 coordinated key activities, in particular the September 2024 Integration Review Workshop enabling to reach Milestone 11-Prototype,as well as the successful first general assembly and first project review leading to the update of Deliverable D1.2 strategic plan to include further demonstrations’ details and user engagement strategies.
WP2 advanced AI-based emulators for ocean modelling, developing differentiable emulators for the NEMO dynamical core and making progress in satellite altimetry and Lagrangian drift trajectory simulations.
WP3 enhanced ocean models, including high-resolution GLO36v1, SHYFEM-MPI, and HBMos, to improve global and regional simulations.
WP4 progressed in integrating the models and DDEs from WP2/WP3 on both cloud and HPC infrastructures, This effort involved incorporating components from both EDITO-Infra platform and WP5’s Virtual Ocean Model Lab and was validated through a series of demonstrators.
WP5 co-developed the Virtual Ocean Model Lab, integrating services like Autosubmit with PostgreSQL and developing SURF and HBMos platforms for high-resolution modelling.
WP6 integrated Focus Applications into the EDITO platform, advancing biodiversity, ship routing, and microplastic applications, with ongoing testing and validation.
WP7 integrated and advanced the What-If Scenarios for Nature-based Solutions and environmental management, focusing on coastal risk reduction, marine plastic pollution, and aquaculture, with plans for user training in 2025.
WP8 published six news articles, enlarged LinkedIn followers, and maintained a presence on X. It promoted EDITO at high-impact events like the DOF’24 and UNODC’24, and laid the groundwork for 2025 user engagement activities.
