Report on the results of consultations government ministries and funding agencies (opens in new window)A report documenting the engagement with governmental funding agencies to understanding their level of commitment to existing hydrographic observations, their understanding of the benefits of these observations, their ambition for the future and their willingness to pay for centralised service provision as envisaged in the initial scope of the project.
Gender Action Plan (opens in new window)A gender action plan will be drafted to guide the project gender policy. D1.4 Progress Report of the First Consortium Meeting NORCE, M9. Report based on the annual Consortium meeting that outlines the progress, including difficulties and new solutions that arose, since the kick-off meeting. MC and SC meetings will be integrated with the Annual meetings and minutes from the Advisory Board meetings will be integrated with the report for the annual meetings.
Report on pilot activities relevant to shared facilities (opens in new window)A report documenting the three pilot activities that will be undertaken, which will inform best practices for 1) carbon secondary standards, 2) nutrient sample stability and 3) salinity analysis.
Report on framework for uncertainty estimates as part of secondary quality control (opens in new window)A report quantitatively assessing inconsistencies when comparing sets collected by different groups or using different methods. By considering several data sets at once and consistently evaluating data quality and differences between data sets, can result in a more usable data product of higher overall quality. Our assessment will add noise (analogous to measurement precision) and a weighting scheme to the existing GLODAP framework. We will test these extensions to the framework using synthetic data (for example model output), salinity and nutrient data collected on the demonstration cruise and a data set from the Mediterranean Sea (currently not part of the full GLODAP product).
Report of data curation recommendations including gap analysis (opens in new window)We will assess the European data system for both real time and quality-controlled data. Real-time data submission is innovative and only operates for a few ships at the moment. Here we will map the current extent and efficacy of real-time data submission from ships. Based on the requirement (assessed by WP4) this task will evaluate the cost, feasibility and protocols for real-time data submission with full automation being a clear target. For fully quality controlled data we will map national protocols (and the extent to which they are applied) for submission of data to different data centres. This mapping exercise will highlight gaps in appropriate data archives and standardized formats on a parameter level. We will develop a new data flow protocol, including new identifier scheme and harmonized data formats; through a single ingestion point at national level, data (and data updates) shall flow automatically to international archives and services (at EU level eg SeaDataNet, Copernicus, EMODnet, and internationally the GO-SHIP data centre, CCHDO). Metadata and identifier allocation shall be managed through OceanOPS, allowing for cross-cutting monitoring and analysis with other ocean observing systems and projects (at EU level eg EuroArgo or Eurofleets, at international scale all GOOS activities). An example of a new recommended data format and data pathway for ADCP data will be developed.
Report on updated salinity best practice (opens in new window)A report based on the findings of a cruise within Euro GO-SHIP that will gather evidence to update the best practice for salinity sampling and analysis.
Synthesised statement of requirement report for EuroGO-SHIP (opens in new window)A statement of requirement for the services the European Hydrography community requires as the basis for the EuroGO-SHIP RI description in WP5. It will synthesise information to identify areas of activity that are considered highest priority for EuroGO-SHIP based on the requirements of different stakeholders.
Report on nutrient standards quality (opens in new window)Description of Nutrient reference work carried out within project and innovation instandard quality with evaluation of implications for data quality
1st Revised Data Management Plan (opens in new window)The original DMP will be revised based on any significant changes that have arisen over the first 18 months of the project.
Report on carbonate system reference material production (opens in new window)A report documenting the impact assessment of the widespread practice of storing nutrient samples for analysis ashore. Based on the results in Task 3.2.
Report summarising the results of consultations with regional networks (opens in new window)A report documenting the engagement with the Northern European (ICES), Mediterranean (MONGOOS, CIESM) and Black Sea Hydrographic communities to gather their opinions regarding the services that they require from the EuroGO-SHIP RI.
"EuroGO-SHIP Factsheet #2" (opens in new window)A Factsheet introducing EuroGO-SHIP and its potential, societal value will support wider dissemination to Blue Economy stakeholders, civil society and citizens.
Summary of the range of possible RI structures, with preferred option (opens in new window)A report determining a range of structures for the EuroGO-SHIP RI and undertake an initial consultation to determine which of these is most viable. We will explore several options for Governance and architecture, including the establishment of RI that provides all its own services through to one supported by the activities of several RIs, which would be a new model for sustainability. We foresee a novel, bold model where activities would be performed (and funded) in common across the RI landscape. Our report will evaluate a range of models as well as a recommendation for the way forward.
Report of refined scope of shared facilities (opens in new window)We will describe a refined suite of shared facilities including scale, scope, feasibility, and cost. In the first instance these will be the around observations of salinity, nutrients, oxygen, velocity, carbon system parameters and transient tracers, with each led by a parameter expert from within the consortium. While our initial parameter list is based on priority International GO-SHIP parameters and GOOS EOVs we will include refining this list in the scope of work for this task. These shared facilities, which will evolve through the work undertaken in the project, will include:•Capability – associated with specialised analyses (e.g., transient tracers or low concentration nutrient observations) and instrumentation•Certified reference materials for high quality chemical analyses•Training (including virtual, in land-based laboratories and at sea)•Software for Primary quality control of observational data•Best practice (for all aspects of observing and data handling including cruise logistics)•A European Marine Equipment Pool: for sharing equipment that is otherwise unavailable from individual sensors and analytical equipment to containerised labs that are easily transported and mobilised

Summary of RI requirements and potential help that they can give to the new RI under what circumstances (opens in new window)A report evaluating the potential of the existing RI Landscape to deliver the services required by the Hydrographic community, including engagement with EMODnet, EUROGOOS, JERICO, ICOS, EMSO, ARGO, Eurofleets, EMBRC, Lifewatch, DANUBIUS and Ferryboxes, SeaDataNet and Copernicus to determine their needs from a EuroGO-SHIP RI and what facilities, capacities or services they might offer it, and what access arrangements might be required.
Report summarising the results of consultations with end users (opens in new window)A report documenting the consultation with representatives of two groups (beyond the traditional scientific community) that are beginning to or want to use hydrographic observations in a real-time mode. These are the numerical modelling community and the satellite calibration & validation community.
EuroGO-SHIP Impact Report (opens in new window)An external facing, professional publication (briefing) documenting the key findings of the project and the impact achieved will be produced, targeted to policy makers & funding agencies.
"EuroGO-SHIP Factsheet #" (opens in new window)A Factsheet introducing the concept of EuroGO-SHIP and its added value to the EU RI landscape will be produced to support dialogue with relevant RIs.
Kick-off Meeting Minutes (opens in new window)A report documenting the presentations and discussion of the Kick-off meeting.
Report on best practices and traceability, including gap analysis (opens in new window)In this report we will undertake an analysis of community-agreed and RI-endorsed Best Practices relevant to EuroGO-SHIP that are the cornerstone for building and maintaining an interoperable data system. We will identify and plan progress towards reducing gaps in best practices and/or obstacles to their adoption with a focus on: •Quality Control procedures;•Standardisation and traceability;•Best practices for workflows and operations.
A document outlining how the research data collected or generated will be handled during a research project, and after it is completed, describing what data will be collected / generated and following what methodology and standards, whether and how this data will be shared and/or made open, and how it will be curated and preserved.
A short (3’-5’) video will be produced to convey the key results and outcomes of the project. The video will showcase insights and stories from key Partners and stakeholders, it will reflect on the results and impact achieved through the implementation of the action and it will convey key messages summing up the science case and potential for a Euro GO SHIP Research Infrastructure and/or services.
