Resultado final
D4.1 comprises a research part (research questions, methodology andresults) and a resource part. The latter will offer a collection of practices, activities and tools (e.g. websites, resources and events) that promote minority languages especially among the younger generation (beyond the case studies). As a result of the research, these practices, activities and tools will be presented according to the level(s) they have the most impact on (micro, meso, macro level) and with the selected case studies as examples. Moreover, D4.1 will also give an overview of which of the identified practices, activities and tools are used by the chosen case studies and which are not.
Description of a European language preservation Ecosystem (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)All European countries are multilingual, i.e. more than one language variety is used in each. Each language exists in an ecosystem: in relation to other languages and non-linguistic factors that affect language use: e.g. policies, education, inter-group relations. Some ecologies are healthy and support sustainable multilingualism, but more often linguistic ecologies are unbalanced and disadvantage minority languages and their speakers. Languages become endangered when speakers abandon them for a language that is associated with a more powerful group or with social advantage, or because the speakers suffer from discrimination. This deliverable aims to describe and analyse the ecologies of all the case study languages, utilising and developing the framework developed by Calvet (1998). Some of these languages are crossborder languages and so have a more complex ecosystem; this is fairly common in Europe and worldwide. These analyses will give an overview of how languages and their groups are playing important roles on international, European and regional level and what their levels of intervention are, also in order to identify pathways of support and decision making on the one hand and useful connections and networking opportunities on the other. We also aim to identify common patterns in order to produce generalisable recommendations.
Definition of quality criteria for practices, activities and tools (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)D4.2 defines general quality criteria for the practices, activities and tools for the promotion of minority languages on the basis of the outcomes of D4.1. The quality criteria are the result of a co-operative engagement in which community members and stakeholders from the case studies (and beyond) are included.
User engagement and gamification concept in the domain of endangered languages (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)This document will summarize the state-of-the-art of gamification for the project’s domain, the findings on user needs for the RISE UP digital toolset and describes the elaborated gamification concept.
