Project description
A new at-home pregnancy test
For years, women have relied on at-home pregnancy tests. However, these tests come with drawbacks. Many available options on the market are prohibitively expensive, while the quality of some of those tests is a concern. Another critical drawback of traditional at-home pregnancy tests is their single-use design. The EU-funded Reusable preg test project aims to develop the world's first reusable pregnancy test, focusing on accuracy, hygiene, and user-friendliness. By addressing shortcomings in these areas, the project will offer a cost-effective, reliable, and sustainable solution for women worldwide. The project is simultaneously developing a platform technology adaptable to other areas as well, with the goal of developing reusable diagnostics for many other indications.
Objective
In order to gain information about the most important happening in a persons life, women have been turning to the at-home pregnancy test for decades. The problem is that available tests are either expensive per use or poor in quality, aside from being single-use only. This ultimately leads to many needs being unmet.
We at Pharmista Technologies intend to combat these needs by developing the world’s first reusable pregnancy test placing high focus on accuracy, hygiene and user-friendliness. This in turn will increase convenience-levels, reduce our customer's spendings on their reproductive health, minimise the risk of miss-interpreting the results, and lastly, reduce the consumption of hazardous, single-use plastic products. If our MVP works according to plan, we seek to employ the methodology onto other diagnostic areas where reusability would be advantageous. Therefore, our innovation has a great potential to disrupt not only the pregnancy testing market, but the immunoassay market in whole.
