The monetary contribution from the EU enabled Dioxycle to develop a strategic approach focused on hiring diverse talents. Initially, hiring was managed by a team member with no HR experience, leading to an inefficient and decentralized process that required upskilling every team member involved in hiring. To address this, Dioxycle hired Grace Mckelvey, a female HR professional, to centralize the process and focus on recruiting women. Grace was trained by various R&D verticals to identify candidates with the best skills, including electrochemists, computer scientists, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and chemistry researchers. Grace conducted extensive research to find top female talents, collaborating with headhunters, universities, and team connections. After evaluating over 50 candidates for two roles, she successfully hired Dr. Gillian Hawes as an R&D electrochemist and Elisie Dirican as an R&D engineer. These two roles are key as they enable the current scientific team to put their efforts into scaling up the technology to a world-first scale.
