Promoting gender parity and diversity at Dioxycle

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - DIO (Promoting gender parity and diversity at Dioxycle)

Reporting period: 2023-07-01 to 2024-06-30

The aim of this program is for Dioxycle to hire two additional women scientists to conduct research and development on Dioxycle’s electrolysers. In the scientific space, women researchers are underrepresented, yet their inclusion is vital for the organic growth of companies and the advancement of innovation. By investing in these resources, Dioxycle seeks to maximize gender parity and foster a more inclusive and diverse scientific community, ultimately contributing to more robust and innovative research outcomes.
The monetary contribution from the EU enabled Dioxycle to develop a strategic approach focused on hiring diverse talents. Initially, hiring was managed by a team member with no HR experience, leading to an inefficient and decentralized process that required upskilling every team member involved in hiring. To address this, Dioxycle hired Grace Mckelvey, a female HR professional, to centralize the process and focus on recruiting women. Grace was trained by various R&D verticals to identify candidates with the best skills, including electrochemists, computer scientists, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and chemistry researchers. Grace conducted extensive research to find top female talents, collaborating with headhunters, universities, and team connections. After evaluating over 50 candidates for two roles, she successfully hired Dr. Gillian Hawes as an R&D electrochemist and Elisie Dirican as an R&D engineer. These two roles are key as they enable the current scientific team to put their efforts into scaling up the technology to a world-first scale.
Dioxycle was able to invest in hiring a female HR professional with the right skill set to help hire the best talents.
With the help of this new HR, Dioxycle was able to hire two new female scientists, Dr. Gillian Hawes as an R&D electrochemist and Elisie Dirican as an R&D engineer.
Dioxycle had also invested in new equipment for these two scientists to perform value-added research. Dioxycle notably bought a “slot die coater” which can be used to perform ultra-precise material deposition and increase the efficiency of electrolyzers.
