Project description
A closer look at unmanned aircraft
In the ever-evolving realm of aviation, the challenge of seamlessly integrating remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) into European airspace looms large. The complex airspace structure, from Class A to G, demands a comprehensive solution. With this in mind, the EU-funded IRINA project will build on the research work conducted by SESAR 2020 PJ 13 ERICA to perfect air traffic management infrastructure, services, and detect and avoid systems, ushering in a new era of RPAS integration and airspace harmonisation. The project goes one step further by introducing a new working package that focuses on air traffic management infrastructure, services, and detect and avoid systems in airspace Classes D to G. IRINA stands as a testament to Europe’s commitment to pioneering advancements in aviation technology and safety.
Objective
The project aims to continue the research work done in SESAR 2020 PJ 13 ERICA. It will finalize the effort for the ATM infrastructure and services and DAA regarding IFR RPAS integration in Airspace Class A to C. Also it will in an additional working package newly address the ATM infrastructure and services and DAA regarding IFR RPAS accommodation in Airspace Class D to G. Both Work Packages aim to support the full integration of RPAS into European Airspace and to address the transition between ATM and UTM airspaces.
