The European Union's Support to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)

Project description

Bridging science and policy for biodiversity

Biodiversity loss is accelerating at an alarming rate, threatening ecosystems, economies, and human well-being. Despite growing awareness, the gap between scientific knowledge and policy action remains a major challenge. Effective conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity require stronger links between research and decision-making. Addressing this issue is crucial for ensuring a sustainable future for both nature and people. With this in mind, the EU-funded EU4IPBES project supports the Intergovernmental science-policy platform on biodiversity and ecosystem services (IPBES) in implementing its work programme up to 2030. By strengthening the science-policy interface, the project contributes to better-informed policies for biodiversity conservation, ecosystem services, and sustainable development – helping to secure a healthier planet for generations to come.

Objective

The overall objective for this action is to support the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and the implementation of its rolling work programme up to 2030, as set out in annex I to decision IPBES-7/1.

The IPBES rolling work programme up to 2030 aims to advance the achievement of the overall objective of IPBES, which is to strengthen the science-policy interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, long-term human well-being and sustainable development.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
