OEI - Requirement No. 4 (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)

Ethics AdvisorThe project displays a high level of interdisciplinarity, each discipline raising isolated ethical problems that interact with each other and are likely to produce negative synergistic effects. Due to the dimension of the grant, the multidisciplinary aspects, and the fact that AI an ML technologies are intended to be used as tools to design recommendations on diet and purchasing habits, serious and complex ethics issues might arise that could compromise fundamental rights and freedoms and/or undermine EU fundamental values. The beneficiaries themselves acknowledge many of these issues and try to address them in their proposal, though insufficiently. It is true that the project describes the role of an ethics advisor (p. 25). However, it is important that the advisor is external and independent from the project. The advisor should provide the consortium with guidance on compliance with relevant ethical regulations and EU guidelines and with a focus on the three areas: human participation, personal data and use of artificial intelligence as commented above. Therefore, an external independent ethics advisor with specialisation covering the issues below must be appointed by month 1.The ethics advisor must advise the consortium on the following issues:- the involvement of a large number of human participants, including vulnerable people, children, and individuals unable to give an informed consent- the proper handling of a large amount of personal and special categories data- the use of AIA report by the Ethics Advisor must be submitted at the end of each reporting period.
