BIOCONNECT: Developing the Action Plan to Foster Baltic Region Innovation Ecosystem in Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology

Project description

A more dynamic and inclusive future for the Baltic bioeconomy

In the Baltic region, fostering a more resilient biotechnology ecosystem is hindered by fragmented innovation and limited integration. Consequently, the potential for economic competitiveness remains untapped. In this context, the EU-funded BIOCONNECT project aims to fortify the Baltic cluster for biotechnological innovation. With a focus on inclusivity and integration, BIOCONNECT aspires to unlock the full potential of the region, catalysing a transformative Bio Revolution and propelling the Baltic bio-economy into a new era of vitality and innovation. The project aligns with the EU's commitment to sustainability and circularity. Beyond economic gains, this initiative promises a healthier populace and catalyses the Bio Revolution, propelling an array of new applications.

Objective

The BIOCONNECT project aims to help create a more robust, integrated, and inclusive Baltic ecosystem/cluster for biotechnology innovation as one of the key ingredients for the present and future economic competitiveness of the region. A strong and vibrant bioeconomy holds colossal potential to reinforce EUs focus on sustainability and circularity, ensure a healthier, more active population - as well as pave the way for an exponential cascade of new applications so transformative as to be dubbed the Bio Revolution.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
