Project description
New acceleration tech for data processing
Data processing at the edge faces challenges due to computational limitations in edge devices. Traditional approaches frequently struggle to keep up with the high computational demands of certain applications. This shortfall is especially problematic for computationally intensive applications with real time requirements, such as indoor asset tracking. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the EDGE-SA project aims to address these issues by investigating innovative processing architectures based on systolic array topologies using evolvable hardware techniques. These architectures are designed to enhance data processing capabilities and complement existing technologies like artificial neural networks. A key target use case will be the development of high precision indoor tracking solutions, aiming to fill the current gap in commercial offerings.
Objective
The primary aim of EDGE-SA is to investigate the potential suitability and applications of Systolic Arrays (SA) and Evolvable Hardware (EHW) as acceleration solutions for data processing challenges that demand extensive computation at the edge, especially crucial for resource-constrained devices. These technologies can serve as supporting mechanisms alongside existing technologies like Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Additionally, indoor tracking of assets is considered as a real-world application context to enhance and validate the research since, at present, there is no reliable commercial solution available in the market that can deliver high accuracy.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
